Comparing Credit Card Rewards With The Points Guy

Now I'm gonna ask you the big question speaking of going over to credit cards. What's better, Sapphire or Platinum?

I will say-

And that's the war.

Yeah, right. I would say Sapphire is better for points in general. You will earn more points with, in general, unless you're buying an exorbitant amount of airfare, which is, you know, 5X on Platinum, but Chase is 3X on dining and travel, or no longer travel, but 3X on dining. That alone, you know, that's a category, we all eat every day. So I would say Sapphire will win on points, Amex on perks. They just opened their 31st lounge in Salt Lake. I think Sapphire's at eight. So when on the airline lounge, and plus Amex has Delta lounge access as well. So if you're flying Delta or traveling through top, top airports, you love the lounges, I would say Amex wins on that perk front, whereas Chase would win on the value of the points and when you go to redeem them.

But those annual fees are going through the roof, right?

They are going through the roof for sure. But what I would urge people is, you know, my dad always said, you know, cheap is expensive. Just because the fees are high doesn't mean they're not worth it. You know, all of these fees, you know, you just have to take a look at which of these am I actually going to use. And in most cases, if you're traveling, if you're going to lounges a couple times a year and you get value, you have to put a dollar amount on that. So I would say, you know, $50 per lounge visit is like a low base level. So when you're calculating, am I gonna use this travel credit or hotels, like, you have to do a personal decision. But I know I don't think people are closing, you know, with the fee raises this year, my sense from the, and Amex's results indicate otherwise that people are still keeping them and getting value out of the perks.

I love this, you're following quarterly earnings.

You gotta, you know? I can't just like look, well, sometimes I just kind of get a sense, what are people saying on Instagram? But no, I mean this is big business, and I think in general, I think why is 'cause airlines are letting consumers down so much that people are kind of shacking up with the credit card partner. And frankly these credit cards, if you're canceled on and you've gotta stay at a hotel, your credit card coverage will cover you way more than an airline's going to. Unfortunately flyers don't really have rights, but when you spend, especially on a premium credit card, you get better customer service and you kind of have someone to, you know, look out for you.
