Constellation CEO on Transmitting Energy Globally

Production of electric power is a local or national business. I'm curious, Joe, whether you talk to colleagues who run electric producing businesses in other countries, A, and is there a potential to transmit or produce electricity and send it to different countries and say even Mexico and Canada, but what about Europe and Asia?

I think, I think there are pretty, some, some limits in moving electricity over, call it four or 500 miles from its place of origin and people kind of experience this in their daily lives. Sometimes when you plug in something that uses a lot of electricity, you could feel the heat in the cord and that's actually how we lose energy in the transmission of electricity. You lose it through heat losses the longer you push it. I like to compare it Andy, to, to that gallon of ice cream. You went out and you got, the longer the ride home, the more of it's gonna melt on the way. So we do have some of those issues. Well, what we can do is have surrogate forms of energy. So we could produce, for example, clean hydrogen here, make ammonia and different liquid byproducts that then could be shipped and our clean energy carriers. And we've seen a bit of that. Again, the tax credit environment has impacted it.

Do you talk to CEOs of power companies around the world? Maybe you're doing that in Davos?

Yeah, no, for sure. It, you know, it's, it's strikingly different, at least you know, the early going for the European counterparts is the data center push is less dramatic and in many respects I think will continue to be that. They're trying to sort out data sovereignty and other issues. But it'll be fascinating how that develops over here. Rest of the world, gangbusters.

Really? Europe?

Europe in, in, in spots. But I'm talking about more like places like North Africa, Asia, we're seeing continued demand.
