Kalshi’s Confidence in the Courts

The legal cases that are going on in states around the country, which are on this question of a lot of states are arguing this is a gambling product that should be regulated. You should get a license.

Right.

This is probably, I mean, I don't, I can't predict this, but it very likely could wind up in the Supreme Court. So do you, what is, could your, given that it's 70% of trading, what would the future look like if this didn't go your way? Would it be, well, I guess we'll go state by state and get licenses, or there's like life beyond sports if it didn't go your way?

Of course there's, there's life beyond sports. Is, the funny thing is that in the 2024 election, right when we listed election markets, everyone was looking at Kalshi and saying, oh, Kalshi is just an election. Election betting, election trading is going to die after the election, because it's so. And then we listed sports, and then elections kind of became, okay, Kalshi is not just elections now. Kalshi is just sports. And if I look a year, two or three years from now, I think sports is gonna be a significantly smaller part of the business. It's already started shrinking.

Because you're adding other kinds of betting?

We're adding, we're actually releasing very soon the biggest change in our product, or the biggest innovation we've had in our product since we launched the Exchange in 2022. So, and the institutional side is growing so much with block trades, a lot of the structural needs that we needed to have with margin to really grow there. That I think sports is gonna be a, honestly, a way smaller part of the business going forward. But of course, on the Supreme Court, we don't know where it's gonna end up. But we obviously believe our legal case is right. We just won the first appeals case with New Jersey. That's the biggest case we've had so far, saying that we are right on the law. We believe we're right on the law. We just need to wait for the courts.

It's a long, long fight coming.
