I'm joined here by Mark Lobosco. He is the chief business officer at LinkedIn, a job he got promoted to in January. So congratulations.

Thank you.

Six months later.

Six months in. But you know, better late than never.

But, but we didn't know each other so it doesn't count. So tell me, what is it about this mandate that appealed to you, particularly in this time at Linkedin and this time in the ad space?

Many things about the role excited me. One, one reason is LinkedIn, as a platform, has had never had a more important part in the world. Economic uncertainty is gonna be the issue of our time and Linkedin is a platform that can help our members, companies, governments really make sense of the world. A big part of my new job though is also looking after our advertising business and it's an incredible time to be in this space, especially with what's happening with the creator economy and also how hard it is right now for companies to drive growth and prove growth. And there's a lot we're doing at Linkedin on that front.

What made you decide to lean into the creator economy? Like at this time? 'Cause I think you tried it a couple years back.

Yeah.

And you've kind, you've doubled back down. So what was different then to now?

Yeah, I mean one of the big things is the creator kind of role on Linkedin is more than doubled over the past few years. And one of the things that we heard a lot about from our customers is that creators play an incredible role with amplifying the brand. You know, what marketers and companies are trying to do right now, a big part of a marketing strategy is credibility. And so if you think about credibility, it starts with the atomic human of a great brand and then you think about how you can leverage your employees to kind of amplify that brand and then how you can leverage customers. And you can do a lot of that via our events product on Linkedin. And then creators really help amplify it. And at this point, every CMO I meet with, creators play a critical role with being able to get that message out in a real authentic way.

How many CMOs do you think actually post themselves on Linkedin?

My guess is, I don't have that specific number, but I know that now you find, we've seen a 68% growth in CEOs posting on Linkedin right now. So my guess is it's north of 68%.

Do you think they post themselves or they have people post for them?

Candidly, I think it's probably a mix. I think the message is that are most authentic and that really resonate with audiences are those that come from the CMOs themselves.

And actually that's what I wanna talk about, right? Because I was a CMO for a long time and you know, particularly in a certain age group, there's a reticence to be as authentic as one might be. 'Cause we sort of all learn to, you know, be very politic in order to make it up the ladder. But you're right, 'cause what I see perform well on Linkedin is not sort of self congratulatory. You know, I won a lot of awards, but really more honest conversations. So for someone who's thinking about opening up and using Linkedin as a creator who may not be a 20-year-old coming into the marketplace, but you know, a seasoned executive, what's a piece of advice you would have for them?

I would have a perspective. I would think about what's the insight or takeaway you're trying to share. I would, you know, have that thought and then I would one take and I would share that message so it comes across as truly authentic.

So one of the other things I read you guys did is that you did a partnership with Adobe and I'd love to talk about that.

Great.

Why don't you tell us about that?

Great. Yeah, so this was kind of near and dear to my heart. So one of the roles that I had at Linkedin was helping acquire Lynda.com, which became our Linkedin learning products. And one of the big parts of this partnership was helping all marketers upskill in AI. And so it was a great collaboration, kind of full funnel solution. And a big part of it is unlocking some of the amazing Linkedin learning courses we have around AI.

What skills do you think are most relevant now for people in the workforce?

I mean, I feel like this is, you know, this is my first Cannes and I've heard from several people, this is feels like the first like AI at the core Cannes event.

Oh really?

And so at the same time, I think AI is certainly one of those skills right now that is incredible for every marketer to become not just literate in, but like fluent. And what I mean by that is it's not just being able to, you know, ask Chat or CoPilot a question. There's an incredible opportunity, whether you are a researcher, whether you're building brand, whether you're making creative for any one of those marketing functions, to be able to be kind of a full stack marketer, to be able to actually do a lot of those things yourselves, to allow you to iterate and move faster. But the most important thing, not just learning these AI skills, at the end of the day, everyone has access to the same models. And so the most important skill beyond just being AI fluent is judgment, it's taste, it's creativity. And so how do you leverage the AI tools but also be able to have the right judgment to be able to cut through the noise.

So AI obviously is the conversation, but I think one of the things I always thought about LinkedIn is that you sit on a trove of data about what's happening in the workforce, right? And there's companies that are actually forming like Charter where they actually try and you know, tell you what's happening with the workforce. What is it that you're seeing that you think is important for us all to know? Because for example, one thing I'm seeing from the outside is, oh, somebody applies for a job and literally somebody has to shut down the posting after four days 'cause it gets so many applications. But what are you seeing, like what insights can we learn from you about what's happening in the workforce?

So a couple of takeaways right now of what's happening in the workforce. So overall global hiring is down by about 20 to 30% versus where we were pre-pandemic. There are a number of spotlight highlights around the workforce. So certain industries continue to grow quickly, healthcare SMB has been much more resilient. And there's some regions of the world like the UAE that is growing like crazy. One of the other bright spots, unsurprisingly, is what's happening within the AI economy. And so if you think about the AI economy, it's everything from AI engineers, which is the fastest growing role on Linkedin. There's also roles like for deployed engineers, go to market engineers, responsible AI architects. But it's not just the people building AI, it's the people building the data centers, it's people annotating the data. And so it's created over 1.3 million new jobs over the past 12 months. And a number of those are around building the data center. And it's created this new type of role called a new collar role, which blends technical skills as well as more vocational skills.

Oh, interesting. So my final question for you is there's a lot of people who just recently graduated, we keep hearing that it's a tough job market for people who are graduating and that Linkedin is really a place where people go to find out about opportunities. What is the one piece of advice you have for a college graduate who decides that they're actually gonna take Linkedin seriously and use it as a way to find their job?

Yeah, it's a great question. First off, we are reading a lot about, you know, entry level jobs going away. And what we've actually learned is that it's not the case. If you look at that hiring rates that I mentioned before, hiring for entry level roles is declining at the same rate as experience roles. The one piece of advice I would have, going back to AI, is when you're looking to get a role at a company beyond being very fluent in AI, one of the cool things that I've been seeing with people that are applying a job for the first time is they're sharing examples of how they'd be able to help the company win. So if you're looking for an entry level sales role, you get to know the strategy, the product, and you actually create something to say, here's how I would change your strategy.
