Envestnet’s ‘Bullseye’ Strategic Approach  

I listened to an interview you did, and you talked about, kind of, the bullseye approach, where there are a multitude of things you can tackle, but you're gonna really stay focused in a handful, three, four, five, six, whatever that may be.

Right.

So, although you're new, you're not looking to radically shake things up. There's an element of continuity while, of course, trying to grow and explore new opportunities.

Right. Right, at the core, Envestnet was and is an incredible franchise that has a fantastic set of technologies to serve RIAs and broker-dealers. But we'd strayed a little bit from the center of the bullseye, and the work that we did, the strategic work that we did, was to really make sure that we as a firm understood what the bullseye was and where we were great, and where we continue to have the opportunity and the right to lead, packaged that, got organized around that, and presented that to the organizations that we serve, broker-dealers and RIAs. Their reaction to it has been fantastic. I don't know, in my entire career, where I've ever had a circumstance where there's been such alignment between our strategy and the strategy of the businesses that we serve, right? Really what we're hearing reflected back is, "This is all we ever wanted from Envestnet. Just provide us great technology solutions and access to differentiated investment vehicles so that we can lead our customers, period."

Yeah. And it seems like you very much are, kind of, watching the market and trying to respond to and anticipate to what is needed out there, as opposed to you, kind of, creating a product, if you will, and trying to sell people on the idea. Is that a correct assessment?

Right, our job, we have such a strong infrastructure to provide the planning, and the portfolio management, and the trade execution, and the settlement, and the billing, and the access to the managed accounts that all the advisors need that, you're exactly right, our job is to, in conjunction with our clients and our partners, understand where the market is going so that we can continue to provide what advisors need on those rails. And so, which is why a big part of our strategy today is making sure that we're meeting advisors where they are today and where they're going to be tomorrow with all range of alternative investments, right? We're beginning to do the work to understand where are advisors gonna want to go with digital currencies and beyond that with the underlying technologies that enable the digital currencies, like blockchain, and how does that enable tokenization and what might that mean for advisors, but all of it to allow advisors to serve their clients and to do an excellent job doing that.
