Jessica: What are you looking for? Hayes, are you eating Coke for breakfast?

Jessica: You cannot open a Diet Coke for breakfast. Hayes, can you just wait? That's not part of our branding.

Eliza: Jessica Reed Kraus is a MAHA influencer and blogger who is known online as House Inhabit. She built a following covering Robert F. Kennedy Jr's presidential campaign, and now has access to him and the rest of Trump's inner circle too.

There's a great one. This is Secretary Hegseth coming down Air Force 1.

Eliza: Her content has drawn criticism for defending controversial figures, launching aggressive attacks on Democrats, and amplifying conspiracy theories. But she remains a popular voice among MAHA supporters. As parts of Trump's coalition start to fracture, Kraus and her MAHA friends are weighing whether the administration is delivering on its promises.

Jessica: Hello.

Hi, it's good to see you again.

Good to see you.

Eliza: Thanks for having us.

Welcome to California.

So, well first of all, we're making mocktails, right?

We are today, I mean, usually we would make cocktails, but we are being very good tonight and we're going to have a smart sober group.

And so you don't consider yourself MAHA, though. You are aligned with a lot of parts of it.

Right, I don't follow any definitions in politics. I'm not MAGA or MAHA. I just am a mom who happens to share a lot of the same beliefs that are at the forefront of the movement.

You don't match a traditional right wing voice, right? Like I've covered politics for a long time. A lot of Republicans are different than you, the sort of more traditional Republican. But Trump has brought in the coalition. I mean, you came in because you were alienated from the Democratic party over vaccines, right?

Pretty much. I mean it was, you know, it was kind of slow growing, gradual severing. But I would say the vaccines were what pushed me away entirely. It's not like I set out to say like I'm sick of the Democrats. I'm gonna try to see if I can get in with this other side. I knew a lot about Trump dynasty growing up. I always liked him as a character until I didn't. And then the Kennedy family, I grew up with that is like almost a fairytale.

Eliza: So the group coming tonight, tell me about who they are. They're all sort of some version of original MAHA.

Yes, that's correct. So there's different phases of MAHA, like there's a whole new crop now that claim to be the spokespeople of MAHA. But the women I met here in Laguna during the early days, I guess as soon as Kennedy announced he was running, they really were the ones who educated me on the whole movement and how much they had been fighting to raise awareness about vaccine injuries. And they're very engaged, but they're also not just going to fall in line with everything. They're critical of everything going on in the administration, which is why I call on them for these monthly meetings to have just like a mini town hall to figure out, kind of gauge what's going on.

It was the right touch, yeah.

Eliza: The women joining mocktail night have deep roots in the wellness movement.

Eliza: They run wellness brands and advocacy groups.

Let's start with the mocktails because normally Jessica said that this would be a cocktail conversation.

But we're keeping it MAHA and clean tonight and eating. can you tell us? Because this was your recipe with a Jessica add of cucumbers. Why is it important to have something like this as an option?

Because it's clean, there's no glyphosate in it. We know where everything was sourced. It's fresh watermelon juice. There's no high fructose corn syrup in it. There's no red dye 40 in it. So we can sit here and drink this and know that we're not compromising our health and our wellness by enjoying this beverage together.

It's beautiful.

But most of it's biodynamic, organic, sustainable, regeneratively farmed, right? Or it's European.

That's true.

So how does alcohol fit into MAHA? Like what is sort of, what's a bridge too far for you guys and what is okay?

If it causes inflammation in your body, I would say like how it feels in your body. I think most of us have tested things on our own. You know, we've all become our own medicine women or by trial and error.

Jessica, we did a dinner party at my house. It was conspiracy theory themed, right? It was really great.

Eliza: I'd love to hear more about that dinner party.

It was really great, it was really fun. But this might seem a little too far out for this, but I had all the wine sitting with crystals and crystal wands.

Eliza: Oh, I love it.

And everything was being infused energetically to change the frequency of all the alcohol before we consumed.

Did you feel better after the next day?

Absolutely.

If you saw how many balls of wine we drank.

Absolutely.

Absolutely.

Kennedy, obviously you all know him in some capacity. He's a very controversial figure, even within the, you know, Republican party. So can you talk about like, while you're seeing huge gains, seeing him as HHS secretary, seeing the administration doing these things, do you feel like you're mainstream now or do you still feel like you're?

No.

Eliza: Yeah.

I feel like we're normal.

Yeah.

This is normal for us.

I wanna say something really quick on why he has these big strides that we're seeing. And I think that what was happening was we were forced a specific narrative during a very specific time, and.

You're talking about COVID?

Yes. The state of California was trying to pass laws where there's no religious exemption, there's no personal belief exemptions. And to us it was horrible to see something like that as mothers, as people who care about body autonomy. But I think that everything has a silver lining and that needed to happen in order for it to be propelled into this bigger conversation for then people to be like, okay, we need to elect someone that actually cares about our health.

I mean, he gained some traction and your movement grew. But the reason he's in this position today is because President Trump was the one who was elected and much of his coalition is not, you know, part of the MAHA movement. He made this alliance with Kennedy. So how many of you voted for Trump because of Kennedy?

I voted for Hillary in 2016 and I thought that when Trump won, I was gonna be put in a concentration camp because I'm from Iran. Then I ended up voting for him in 2020, but I didn't want to vote for him. But then with Bobby running, I wanted to vote for him.

For Kennedy?

Yeah, for Kennedy. And I supported his campaign. And then when the alliance happened, I voted for Trump because of him.

I didn't vote.

I didn't vote.

You didn't vote?

I don't know if I need to make this confession on camera, but no, because I got stuck with Trump. I couldn't get home in time because I'm a last minute voter and I planned on being home in California to vote. But I ended up at Mar-a-Lago. It was the first year of my adult life that I didn't vote, so.

It would've been really hard for me if it came down to Kennedy and Trump. Like it would've been really hard for me. Partially because psychologically I definitely landed in the lane of, could Kennedy pull it off? I don't wanna say it was a relief, but there was some relief for me because the choice and decision was made for me and I didn't have to choose between the two of them.

Well, I wanna add one thing to that 'cause I think it's really interesting that nobody is like hardcore Republican. This notion of like Bobby, what, you know, he's this legacy Democrat and he's willing to go and work with the Republicans. And I think for me it's like sort of in helping Bobby or in helping MAHA, like anybody who wants to take on the problems that we have in our healthcare system, left or right, like you will have my support if you're really serious about untangling some of these problems.

I think there is a split though in the MAHA movement with the glyphosate issue that has really caused a big.

Let's talk about that.

Fissure in the group, because I think so many really wanted him to take a stand against these corporations.

Eliza: One of Kennedy's key promises was to halt the use of glyphosate in the US.

There's many, many diseases that are linked to glyphosate exposure.

Eliza: It's an ingredient in pesticides that is used by many farmers. Some organizations like the International Agency for Research on Cancer, have said that it's probably carcinogenic. Though the EPA says that it's unlikely to cause cancer in humans. Trump released an executive order in February providing legal protections for companies that produce glyphosate in the US, saying the goal is to protect the food supply.

What I think the problem that I see within the movement is that Bobby doesn't run the EPA and he has no control over executive orders. So I think to land this in his lap is a little unfair.

He was still critical of glyphosate as a whole, but he did come out with a statement saying, I understand where the president is coming from. Which many in the movement we're very upset with.

I think one of the things that's important to.

No, go ahead.

Sorry, to remember, is that the immunity shield, like the criticism that I would have of it is you don't need to give them immunity and perpetuity. You could limit it to five years. But I would say like, get it off of school grounds, get it out of golf, you know, golf resorts. It's not just in agriculture.

So for those of you, it sounds like there's a little bit more understanding of Kennedy's position. For those of you that voted for Trump, are you angry at his decision to put out that executive order?

So when it first happened, I was incredibly upset. If you wanna say it's national defense issue because China is making this product, of course it's understandable to make the product in the US versus China. It's really the immunity from liability that is, I would say.

The protection for the companies.

Nikki: Yeah.

That's your biggest.

That's the biggest issue. We don't want it there, but no one's forcing it to be in our agriculture system. It's just that it's been in the system. Where the other reason why I voted for Trump was because Democrats didn't even do anything about glyphosate all of these years that they were in power anyways. So he just inherited that system is what they're saying.

But he is now protecting it.

And he's protecting it because of what we recently saw. China is in a, I mean, this is what I'm assuming, China and Iran are allies. And China doesn't want the US to strike Iran, right? So this happened right before, so it could be very much connected to the foreign policy issue, which is why he needed to make a decision so that overnight we don't have an issue with our food supply. But it, over the long term, as a MAHA person, I don't like that glyphosate is in our food supply in the first place. And I don't think that they should have liability shield.

The fact that he seems to be a little tone deaf when it comes to this, Trump does, or doesn't really understand or feels like it was a warranted decision. Sorry, you jump, I jumped in. You were gonna say something, but I just wanna make sure it's clear that I am aligned with that position when it comes to not supporting liability shield.

And you'd like to hear more from Trump about.

Yeah.

Where he is coming from.

Yeah, and I wanna see.

It was a bad PR strategy.

Yeah, but I also wanna see a timeline schedule. Like, okay, this is the plan, in six months, we're gonna move in this direction. This is our plan in one year. Like the EU didn't phase glyphosate use out overnight. It's a plan, right? I think it culminates in the mid 2030s at some point, right? Where they're working towards phasing things out.

Also, you don't wanna lose that faction of MAHA, that's, you know, because a lot of the beauty of the MAHA movement is that at least the events that I went to, it was like the blue collar workers, the, you know, the people that are the spiritualists, the health movement. It was all these different factions coming together and I feel like it's sort of splintering off into all these other groups.

Can we talk about what brought moms to this movement, which is vaccines. In January, HHS and the CDC released an updated vaccine schedule that cuts down on the number of recommended childhood vaccines. These are federal guidelines that states, local governments, and even school districts ultimately make their own decisions on what schedules to follow and whether to mandate specific vaccines. The American Academy of Pediatrics called the new guidelines dangerous and said they would continue to give their own recommendations. But in March, a federal judge blocked the Trump administration from implementing its guidelines. Both Shiva and Eden, you mentioned your kids being vaccine injured. How many of you vaccinated your kids?

Well, I mean the obvious answer for me is I vaccinated my child and he was injured. So, you know, I didn't, and I still to this day, I'm not an anti-vaxxer. I would say I'm more aligned with vaccine choice.

There still is a.

Eden: Yeah.

Mandated schedule. It's not just encouraged.

Well it's not necessarily under Kennedy that it's mandated. They give recommendations. But the states, it's the states that have decided to mandate it. And that's what's wrong.

And this is why I left California during COVID.

Right, it's not all states have taken.

Yeah.

No.

Yes, that's.

Only, like only a few. I mean it's growing basically. It started with California and New York.

Yeah, California and New York. And that's the heartbreaking thing. I had to leave the state that I love and where I'm from on my mom's side, fourth generation Californian. I had to leave to protect my daughter.

Because you didn't.

Shiva: You know, for her health. Yeah, I had to.

You didn't wanna give her the COVID vaccine.

Right.

Obviously a lot of opposition from the medical community, associations. That pushback doesn't give anybody pause.

Absolutely not.

Zero.

But what if years from now it comes out that these decisions caused harm? What does accountability look like for you guys? The decisions to make changes to the vaccine schedule.

I mean, I think to answer that question we have to address the fact that there hasn't been any accountability for the harm that's been occurring for the last 10, 20, 30, 40 years. And we're asking for more science and more transparency and for more research. I'm not trying to not answer your question, but I think that it's also we're asking for accountability now, you know?

I also just wanna add, 'cause I think this gets overlooked very often, to go to the tolerance issue. Like if you wanna vaccinate your kids, do it.

Shiva: Right.

Yeah.

I'm not against it. I mean I did actually vaccinate my kids 'cause I didn't really know enough at the time. I'm not sure I would do that again. But I think what's interesting is like when you talk about accountability, if these drug companies didn't have this immunity, then you would be sure if you got vaccinated it was safe and it was effective. Like I didn't get vaccinated. I've had COVID once and I was pretty, you know, sucky for a day and then I was fine. I have not gotten it again. So I don't think that it's like if the vaccine works, what is the problem with people not getting it?

Not everyone had the same experience, the COVID experience you had where they had one sucky day. I mean there were people.

No, but I'm saying like if you got vaccinated and it worked, then you wouldn't care if you were around me and I didn't have it because you wouldn't get it. This is part of this like fallacy in the narrative.

The herd immunity.

The herd immunity.

Is like, if it's not working, if the vaccine doesn't work, then there is real reason to be nervous if you've been vaccinated and other people haven't.

In January, Kennedy also rolled out a new food pyramid. It emphasized protein, healthy fats, and fruits and vegetables. A document released with the new food pyramid also advised people to include more red meat and whole fat dairy in their diet and cut down on processed foods and sugar. Some nutritionists have praised the focus on fruits and vegetables, but have raised concerns about red meat, which has been linked to cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Let's talk about kind of how you feel HHS and the Trump administration as a whole has done as it relates to nutrition.

I think what's exciting about it is just going back to like real food.

Yeah, it seems way more sensible.

I think nutrition and health is non-partisan as well. Like everyone has the right to health.

It should be.

It should be, like if we are being given a system where we can go into a store and we can see, hey, this is a great healthy choice for my family. Like that's not left or right leaning.

However, it brings us back to the issue of the chemicals in our food.

Yeah.

Wanting organic, more access to organic foods.

It's a step in the right direction. I wish that the written document matched the talking points more. There was a lot of really great talking points about how like, fat isn't bad and carbs and sugar are bad. But I don't think that the actual document went far enough.

I think most people would agree that they want to eat healthy food, they wanna feed their families good things. Processed food, non-organic, that's all cheaper. Do you feel like the government is doing enough to help alternatives be more affordable?

I do believe that it is a right, it's a human, it's like our right as citizens of the United States and just a human right to have access to clean air, clean food, clean water. Unless you are cooking at home and you are gonna make the food from scratch or eat whole foods, then the packaged foods that are organic do end up costing more. And I don't think that that's fair. And I believe that we would all agree that that's why we care so much because it shouldn't be an economic issue.

So after everything we've talked about tonight, do you guys still feel optimistic about the Trump administration?

I'd say yes, but let's see how it goes.

I completely agree, but I will say I feel safer and I am ultimately a lot happier with his presidency.

And, yes.

I would say let's wait and see as well.

And I would say yes, I'm happy with my vote. I'm, is everything perfect? No, but I don't think any administration ever is, and I am very supportive of a lot of the things that I've seen, but that doesn't mean I won't change my mind.
