Brené Brown: Here's Why Your Transformation Isn't Working

The thing about transformation is the word is completely overused. Adaptive, incremental change, we facilitate it sometimes, it's important. Transformational change is a collection of paradoxes that are incredibly painful to lead through. And the first is if you need to skill up people, you may not need transformation. If you need to deeply change mindsets, then you may be looking at not what people are doing, but how people are thinking about their work. It's one of the big reasons for the early failures in ROI in AI investments, because AI is not a bolt-on, it is a mindset shift you. And if you're going to have a mindset shift, which Lumen needed, you have a transformation. And the thing about a transformation is it starts in a really scary place for a leader, which is, at the same time, you need to protect what is core to mission, you will have to break some shit in a transformation. You will have to absolutely break some things, including some darlings that you don't wanna break, and then you will have to work for two years to resist the human urge to rebuild and replace what you have broken with yet another system that is not serving growth and revenue.
