How Shared Vision Drives FedEx’s Digital Transformation

When I first got associated with FedEx, my assignment was, it was January of 2024, my assignment was, "Can you spend one day a month in trying to figure out what we are trying to do here and help the team?" I stayed back in Memphis about 186 days that year, and the reason I stayed back is exactly the reason I joined. The vision and the opportunity here is so extensive, and it's rarely that you get, as a CIO, an opportunity where the CEO firmly, organically, believes that technology is a feature and not a bug. And second, a CEO that's also strategic is transformative and is looking to blur the lines, if not completely erase the lines, between business and technology. So when you get a CEO that embraces technology as extensively as Raj does, I knew if that if I wanted to spend my career putting technology to good use, and also look at the mission that FedEx was on to solve for the world and society at large, which is making supply chains smarter for everyone, this was an opportunity not to let go of.

So you two have a pretty good common vision of where you're going?

100%. I think, you know, that's very important for this job description, I would say. And then we talk almost, you know, on a daily basis.

Every day, pretty much.

I would say.

Do you ever disagree?

100%. Perhaps on cricket, yeah.

On cricket?

Yeah.

But anything else besides cricket?

We debate all the time. I mean, we have so many debates. Every part of our strategy, we have so many debates. You know, we were looking at making-

Sometimes he does, sometimes I do.

That's right.

But I would say always FedEx wins the debate.
