Why AI Won’t Kill the Entry-Level Job

Gina, to come to you on this for a moment, you know, your CEO, Bill McDermott said earlier this month that he could imagine an unemployment rate for new grads in the kind of mid 30% range in the next couple of years. I'm curious, you know, we spent some time a couple of weeks ago talking about how you're thinking about sort of entry level hiring right now and the impact that the folks that you are hiring are having. But, you know, one, do you agree with Bill? And then two, tell us a little bit about the impact to those entry level folks.

Yeah, I think that there's a risk for sure that that happens. I think it's a mistake because I truly believe that the early in career folks, they are, they are more AI native than anyone else in the organization. And so what we're seeing internally is actually those early in career folks are outpacing people who are in jobs five and 10 years in some cases because they are able to very quickly get their hands dirty and build agentic agents to make their jobs easier. We have, at ServiceNow, what we call the Finance Rotators Program. So this is our early in career finance program where we rotate them through the different areas of finance. And I'm telling you, these folks are building solutions in days or weeks that are enhancing their jobs. And so one of the things that we've done, and the easiest way to get fired in finance in ServiceNow is when I ask you, why are you doing this? And they say because we've always done it that way. Because that's just the, like, we have to be thinking differently.

Yep.

And those early in career, they'll never say that. They'll ask the question, why are we doing this way? And instead of waiting for an answer, they're saying, I'm just gonna fix it. And so we have an incredible, and this is one story. I have a myriad of them. We have an incredible rotator, a year and a half out of school, his name is Omar. He's seeing his team get barraged with questions at quarter end about bookings. What's going on with results, what's it telling you, like hundreds and hundreds of questions daily. He took it upon himself and he built a bookings insight analyst, agentic.

Wow.

In two weeks.

Yeah.

And by the way, what he's built, we can replicate across the organization. And by the way, all of his teammates in that finance rotators program are building similar ones in their areas. And so I think it's a risk that a lot of companies are not leaning into these early grads because they are automating the transactional, the easy stuff.
