WSJ Opinion: Thou Shalt Not Steal

I'm coming at you with a flaming hot take. Stealing is wrong. You heard me right. My crazy out there opinion is that you shouldn't shoplift. Recently, an article profiling people who shoplifted from Whole Foods went viral. And contrary to assumptions that shoplifters are downtrodden Jean Valjeans stealing only out of total desperation, these thieves were described as wealthy-ish, aspiring artists. They sold luxury goods like soft French cheese, steak, and a $30 eye cream, and they felt absolutely no shame. Well, you should. If thou shalt not steal doesn't work for you, consider that shoplifting, even from big, scary corporations, makes your community that much worse off. Shoplifting causes stores to raise prices, lock up merchandise, and even close down. You're not sticking it to the man when you pocket that concealer. You're being an anti-social loser.
